Much to our surprise, Bryson was a little sicker than I thought. As long as I can remember, he has been a "spitty" baby. He spits up at nearly every meal, and it was definitely nothing new.
About a month ago, however, the spitting up became particularly frequent and turned into more of a projectile vomiting. Bryson seemed a little distressed by it, so I figured it was just a little stomach bug. He was clingy, and whiny, and just looked a little under the weather.
After about two weeks it wasn't subsiding so I scheduled a doctors appointment with his pediatrician just to rule out anything more serious. The doctor noticed that he had lost some weight and had poor skin retention which is a big sign of dehydration. We were sent straight to the hospital to get some fluids in him, and to have some blood testing done to get down to the real problem. The blood tests, urine tests, and x-ray all came back fairly normal so we were sent on our way without a real answer.
About two weeks after that the vomiting was still continuing so I scheduled another doctors appointment with Bryson's pediatrician for Monday. The pediatrician once again sent us to the hospital, but this time for an upper GI x-ray test where they could watch the way his digestive system is functioning. Finally we found the real problem to all the vomiting. The results were sent to the pediatrician, where he called me to break the bad news. He had what is called intestinal malrotation. His intestines were formed incorrectly and were running over each other causing some sections to be blocked. We were promptly sent to Primary Children's Medical Center for surgery. I have to admit I was terrified when the pediatrician told me Bryson was going to need surgery, but after a comforting blessing (mainly to calm my nerves), we were off to the hospital. Surgery was this morning, and I am happy to report it went very well, and he is in recovery. At this point he is still coming out of sedation, but everything went smoothly and he's expected to make a full and fairly quick recovery.

Wow Candace, I had no idea. I'm glad you finally found some answers and the surgery went well. We'll keep sweet Bryson in our prayers.
That has to be one of the most terrifying feelings to experience when you're a mother. Ayden and I practically lived at Primary Children's for the first 3-4 months of his life. Absolutely nothing as serious as this, but still a teensy bit scary for me. haha I hope you and your little guy are doing well. I hope he recovers quickly!
i know how you feel. i hated being up there and not being able to be with your little guy. its soooo scary too. i am glad he is doing well and that the surgery went well. hope everything else is good. love you girl.
Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry to hear he had such a problem and needed surgery but what a blessing he is doing well and will recover quickly! You all are in our prayers and hope that you too get some rest. Much love to you all
