A few weeks back Ethan and I went to visit the dentist for a check up. Everything looked pretty good for me, but Ethan needed a crown for a chipped tooth, and found out he had a couple cavities. While there, I had an x-ray and he showed me that I still had my wisdom teeth and suggested I get them out. I checked with my insurance and they said they'd cover it until the end of September, so I figured what better opportunity to get them out while I still have the coverage.
We went in Friday morning, after dropping both kids off to Andrea (THANK YOU!) and waited a whopping minute before being brought back to our own separate rooms. I was so nervous, because my bottom left tooth was laying sideways and I was told it would be a bit harder to get out. The nurse came in and gave me some medications that were supposed to help me relax and make my mouth numb, and shortly after that put a breathing mask with laughing gas on me. I started feeling really strange and started thinking of things that kept making me laugh. (Hence the laughing gas). The nurse came in to check on me after I started laughing, and I was totally embarrassed that I was starting to loose it. ;)
The procedure seemed to take a while, but my perception of time was totally off so it was probably not as long as I thought it was. I was so glad to be mostly out of it for the whole procedure. One of my teeth that the dentist thought would be an easy extraction came out with a surprise. The root was curved like a fish hook, so he had to break the tooth into pieces to get it out. The one that was sitting sideways was the most painful one to come out. He had to saw it into a couple pieces and pull it out little by little. I was so glad when he was done.
My recovery has been taking longer than I thought it would, and come to find out I have what's called trismus. My jaw has swollen shut to keep it from moving while it heals. So I am still having trouble eating normally, and my face is still puffy. I go back to have my stitches taken out this Friday, and hopefully I'll be all healed by then.
